AS BUILT DATA

While performing module programing errors can occur and the IDS may require as built data. Knowing where to get the data is important and knowing how enter the data is also important. OEM modules can be deleted by the dealer and aftermarket may have suitable replacement that requires programing.

What ever source you do use to obtain AS BUILT data like be advised the data can be wrong on rare occasions. Data lines can be wrong or missing complete lines, so do your research first before you start.

Standard PMI, Program Module Installation, is used to copy data from old module and transfer into new module. Be advised this is not always an option due damage to module or computer file corruption. AS BUILT can be retrieved from the Ford site and downloaded to the laptop, then to the vehicle. If that fails your must access and use as built data and enter it line by line.

Used modules can create issues because they have different VIN attached to them. Ford states on SSM 51536:

For 2000-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, swapping a module from a vehicle for diagnosis purposes is likely to cause errors and is not recommended. It is also not recommended to order a replacement module using a vehicle identification number (VIN) from a different vehicle. Most modules on these affected vehicles are VIN/vehicle specific and hardware variations between modules do exist. Swapping a module from a vehicle or ordering a module using a different vehicle/VIN can cause ineffective repairs and additional vehicle down time. Make sure all appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures are followed when diagnosing the condition prior to all module replacements and only order modules using the correct VIN.”

Be advised that not all as built data is available especially on older vehicles.
